My original idea for this music video was to make a music video for either a song called “Smell like money” or “Bentley Truck” both by 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne. My intentions to this video was that the song was going to be lip synced by two people that would look like and dress like rap artist. This all changed because we got a new member in our group who was also a music artist and had a few songs that we could made a music video for. The next song that we choose was “Ms fat booty freestyle by Timothy” and we decided to break up the freestyle into 5 different locations and in each location the whole scene would one straight shot then moved to the next scene and add drawings and effects in after effects.
Working with the artist went smoothly as he is in my class and we are good friends and we also spoke of what kind of video he wants and what kind of edits he wanted to use as he showed some music videos with the edits that he wanted in his video so I worked on getting him the edits that he needed. I also made a group chat with the artist and the members of my team to keep in conduct for when you meet up or had anything to talk about, also any changes to the song that was made or images were also sent in this group chat to upload.
The target audience that we conducted was a range from 16 to 24 year olds that were most likely students in education, they are mostly students in full time education while some are in full time employment. The genres of music they prefer to listen to are US rap/hip-pop and UK grime/trap and the platforms they use to listen to it are Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube. Also their favourite type of music videos are conceptual, narrative and performance based music videos. This was good as it was more relate to the song predominantly males as the song is from a male’s perspective. I believe we meet this target audience for our video as it was a performance video with interactive draws that made it more eye catching for the viewers and they made the lyrics more lively, as what the audience we was aiming for was into.
For the research my group split up the work to speed up the research so we could recored faster. Part of the research was fing out our target audience so we made a questionnaire and sent it out on social media to get results and these were put into a pie and graph chart to show a better angle of what the audience percentages looked like. For our research we got some inspiration from two artists music videos. One was a Jay Z music video where a camera would follow him room to room with different girls in them which was one thing that are artist liked and he wanted to have that atmosphere. The second video was young Nyro 90s baby where he has some types of animation and shots that we wanted to try and use in the editing stage.
The pre-production was planned to film in five different locations that we found and did recces on for any things that could of went wrong. We made a production schedule that was always being updated as not everything went to plan.
The filming production did not go as well as it was planned too as we was going to uses a steadicam to hold the camera but the one we had was more shaky than holding it handheld so we got rid of it after the first shoot and just did it handheld. During this filing production I was the cameraman and the director, I was directing the artist and anyone else that was in the scene and had to keep making the arrangements of what time to meet up and where.
During the time of the record i started the editing of the clips we had, i upload the videos to premiere pro then after cutting it to the lengths that was need i moved it over to after effect. At first i had no idea how to use AE but after watching a few videos on youtube on how to use the brush and effects i did give up on some things as it would not work at all. For example i wanted to try a breakaway effect that would not work so i had to just cut the text and images out rather than using a effect. After watching and using trial and error i gained some skills on using this software which help produce that video i have today.
